The World Chicken Festival takes place in London, Kentucky, not too far where Colonel Sanders opened his first restaurant. There are contests, a carnival, many vendors and the world’s largest skillet that fries up plenty of chicken. There are also Colonel Sander look-a-likes that can be seen around the festival grounds.

This post documents my experience on September 24, 2022.
I came to London, Kentucky…

…finding a chicken invasion in front of the Court House…
…witnessing people act like chickens and roosters at the Sanders Stage…
…and running into Colonel Sanders himself…
…all just normal experiences at the World Chicken Festival.
But the festival wasn’t all chicken-related.
After passing the Stage of Stars on Main Street…
…the street was lined with vendors for several blocks…
…offering lawn decor…

…women’s clothing…

…decorative wreaths and signs for the wall…

…sweet-smelling body products and candles (Sherapy/SoYum)…

…and edible products used to stimulate the taste buds and relax the mind (Peppers-R-Paradise/Sweet Greens).
Tables were hosted by local religious organizations (Laurel River Baptist Association)…

…those involved in area politics…
…men and women who have served (VFW)…

…and those serving now (Army).

There were also all sorts of raffles (London Fire Department/Mako Appliances)…
…face painting for the kids…
…hatchet throwing for young adults…
…and an entire carnival area that ran along Broad Street, just one block south of Main.

Along with a nice assortment of rides…
…the carnival midway had a ton of games…

…with various prizes won through all types of skill sets.
The quantity of games was very impressive.
It was along the midway where I found this chicken…
…a landmark that helped me recognize that this food line…
…was for eating the chicken fried here…
…in the world’s biggest skillet.
Just watch that chicken bubble.
If you didn’t want fried chicken, there were gyros…
…turkey legs…
…hot dogs and more…
…but I happily waited in line…
…got the drumstick dinner…
…and I think it made the Colonel happy.
