Grits, Chocolate, Hot Slaw and an Angry Bear.
This weekend, there are some really great sounding festivals going on from Roosters in Alabama to Angry Bears in Michigan, the Polish culture in Wisconsin to Highland Games in North Carolina, and Grits in South Carolina to Chocolate in Alabama, Kentucky, AND West Virginia.
In fact, West Virginia has two Chocolate Festivals and a Ramp Festival. You’ll be eating well there.
But the eating also looks pretty good in Tennessee, where you can celebrate a unique type of coleslaw called Hot Slaw. It looks like coleslaw except it’s more of a mustard-mayo variation with some paprika, lemon juice and more. You can pile it on burgers, hot dogs or just eat it plain. Looks wonderful for me.
If you look to the map below, you’ll see that the south is just bustling with festivals and more will be coming in the weeks ahead. Meanwhile, in the north, while festivals are a little scattered, they will also dramatically improve once Easter has passed.
In any case, look to the lists because there are some great festivals going on. Hopefully, the weather this week and weekend won’t mess with any of them.
Here are some weekend options in each state that I would consider…
Alabama
Chilton County Strawberry Festival (Thorsby), Rooster Day (Demopolis)
Florida
Worm Gruntin’ Festival (Sopchoppy), Tampa Bay Blues Festival (Tampa)
